It depends on your current star rating and total review count. Use the calculator above — enter your current Google rating, your total number of reviews, and the target rating you want to reach. The calculator instantly tells you the exact number of new 5-star reviews needed to hit that goal.

Google calculates your overall star rating as the average of all your reviews. For example, if you have 10 reviews totalling 42 stars, your rating is 42 ÷ 10 = 4.2 stars. Google may also apply a weighted average that gives slightly more emphasis to recent reviews, which is why maintaining a consistent flow of new reviews matters.

Research consistently shows that 4.0 to 4.7 is the ideal range for most businesses. A rating of 4.5 or higher significantly increases consumer trust and click-through rates from Google Search and Maps. Interestingly, ratings above 4.8 can sometimes appear less credible — customers expect to see at least some critical feedback, so a perfect-looking score may raise doubts.

Mathematically, a 5.0 is only achievable if every single review on your profile is 5 stars. Once any review below 5 stars exists, no finite number of new 5-star reviews can bring the average to exactly 5.0. A realistic and still excellent target is 4.8 or 4.9, which signals outstanding quality without looking implausible.

Timeline depends on how many new reviews you collect each month. If you have 50 reviews at 4.0 and need 25 new 5-star reviews to reach 4.5, collecting 5 reviews per month means roughly 5 months to hit your goal. The more existing reviews you have, the more new ones are required to move the needle — which is why starting a proactive review strategy early matters.
